NOVELTIES IN THE MERANO SUITE WERE AWARDED THE GERMAN DESIGN AWARD
“The Merano Armchair – Introduced four years ago, was awarded the Red Dot Design Award, the Good Design and the German Design Award Nominee Awards. We are very glad that the adaptation of its shapes reflected in the chair and the bar stool received well-merited attention too,”said Jan Juza, the Marketing Director at TON. Both models are simple in shape and functional. The designer´ aim was to make them look like statues in an aesthetic way; but, on the other hand, they are comfortable and practical to manipulate. Therefore, the Merano Chair and the Barstool combine a bottom part from massive wood with the harmonic bentwood shapes of of the seat and backrest. They are very light and contain no bolts or metal parts due to the manufacturing technology. The TON Company offers them in Beech, Oak, American Walnut and an upholstered model.
The German Design Award 2015 – Special Mention; is the 19th product to be rewarded for the TON Company. Apart from the Merano Suite; awards were presented to the: 911, Mojo, Tee, Tram, Wave, Rioja, Petalo, Simple and 002 models too.
CATALOG TON WON AWARDS
We introduced the catalog at IMM in January 2014. It has been prepared more than one year by a team of more than twenty people. Only the pictures were taken by three teams of photographs. The periodical has 250 pages representing a current portfolio of TON products from classical bent range to design news and much more. “We wanted to present them in surroundings, which they are made in. Therefore a set of photographs by Václav Jirásek is focused on the surroundings around Bystřice pod Hostýnem during the four seasons of the year. The landscape is pictured on its own or in harmony with the products. These were taken by Martin Chum in our old factory premises then,” described Jan Juza, marketing director at TON.

TRAM AND MERANO RECEIVED THE GERMAN DESIGN AWARD NOMINEE 2014
A jury of 30 experts from business, education and science fields oversaw the contest. “The jury found all items registered in the competition to be on a very high level. The nomination for the German Design Award means a recognition of a quality design,” said Lutz Dietzold, Managing Director of the German Design Council. “We greatly appreciate it. Each award like this one confirms that we have chosen the right path,” added Jan Juza, Marketing Director of TON.
Merano by Alexander Gufler has already received the Red Dot Design and Good Design awards. Two bent pieces of plywood crossed axis-wise, serving as a seat and backrest are the dominant elements of the armchair. Despite these bends, the legs of the chair deny traditional bends seen in TON products and remain completely straight. The material used guarantees stability and solidness while maintaining a very low weight.
Tram by Thomas Feichtner, as a brand new chair of 2013, received the very first award. This model is exceptional as it blends technologies used for more than 150 years with contemporary design, and also because of its structural design. The chair joins technologically formed seat and traditional bentwood. The construction of the chair is simplified by the backrest of the seat that at the same time functions as the connection of the legs, which means that no other supports are needed. The chair is also supplied with arm rests that further highlight the unique technology of manual bending.

TON WINNING RED DOT DESIGN AWARD 2011
Within the competition, also the numb servant PETALO by the Italian designer Eugenie Minerva was acknowledged, receiving a special prize of HONORABLE MENTION in the category of Product Design 2011.
The international competition RED DOT DESIGN AWARD ranks among the biggest and the most renowned competitions in the world, dealing with the processing and design of products. Every year, an independent international commission evaluates registered products and evaluates them according to strict criteria, such as the degree of innovation, functionality and general product quality. This method of organization and evaluation is a guarantee of respectability of the competition which is supported and renowned throughout the world.
The new modern chair MERANO got its name from the hometown of the Italian designer Alexander Gufler. The dominant elements of the chair are two bent plywood sheets axially intersecting each other, serving as the seat and the back support. Despite the bends, the legs (bearing element) of the chair support the traditional bends of the TON products and remained completely straight. The used materials ensure stability and firmness while maintaining a very low weight. MERANO is designed both for those who choose a chair mostly for its look, and for people who prefer its practical aspect while sitting.
So TON continues its success when in February this year it became the MANUFACTURER OF YEAR 2010 in the Czech Grand Design prizes awarded by the Design Academy of the Czech Republic and with the bar chair RIOJA it won another international award "INTERIOR INNOVATION AWARD 2011", the prestige of which is right behind RED DOT.
